Who is Switch Me Over?

Switch Me Over is a Tasmanian based company made up of locals, Tassie born and bred, with strong ties to sporting groups and businesses. We believe we can provide a forum for all Tasmanian's to fight for a fairer deal by using size to their advantage.

What does Switch Me Over do?

Switch Me Over negotiates deals on behalf of its users and then presents the deals to them. As a user you can decide if the deal works for you and opt in to take it up.

Our Current Campaign

Switch Me Over is asking for all Tasmanians to join in and change their electricity provider in July 2014 to get a fairer deal, we negotiate on your behalf and we will send out an offer to switch after careful analysis and you can either take up the offer the offer or ignore it and continue with your existing provider.

Our Slogan

Switch - Save - Support

Switch - Your supplier for a better deal

Save - Money

Support - Your local not for profit organisation, when you switch we will donate 20% of the initial switching fee to your selected organisation.

Why Now?

We are closer than ever to having a choice for residential electricity suppliers in Tasmania, with the start date due on the July the 1st 2014. Negotiations with electricity suppliers may start as early as the first quarter 2014. To be in a position to negotiate we need to grow our member base quickly.

The time line.

The Aurora Energy Retail business sale has been deferred due to lack of offers. It may be sold at any time,  but currently Aurora Energy will continue to sell electricity until such time it is sold.

Competition will be available from the 1st of July 2014.

When can we choose?

We get a choice when a new retailer enters the market on the 1st of July 2014. We will be putting together a deal with one of the providers in June 2014 and offering it to all Tasmanians. So sign up and be part of this campaign.

Why have we never had a choice before?

Until now the electricity for domestic users has been supplied by a government owned entity with the electricity prices set by an external regulator. This means no choice of providers and lack of competition in the electricity sector. The government has recognised that the ability to choose providers will bring competition to the market place.

What do we believe in?

We believe in fairness, it seems ridiculous that we pay more for power than other states when the majority of our generation comes from renewable sources. We are also passionate about community groups and fundraising which is why we are offering an unique fundraising offer that allows groups to raise money by getting involved and as you switch we will pay 20% of what we receive for the initial switch fee as a donation.

What is the fundraising opportunity?

This fundraising is designed for community groups, sporting clubs, parent and friends associations and other Tasmanian not for profit organisations. By signing up to Switch Me Over fundraising you will be sent an unique weblink that identifies your group, you will be provided marketing material in the form of an email to send out and a A4 Brochure for the back of your newsletter both containing your unique web link as well as regular updates to forward on and help drive your sign ups.

When somebody signs up to Switch Me Over via your web link they are registered. If they take up the offer of a Switch Me Over campaign then you will receive a donation to the value of 20% of the initial switching fee received by Switch Me Over per campaign.

The way a user will be tracked to see if they have switched is via their email address which is why we validate them.

What do we do?

Switch Me Over negotiates deals on behalf of its users and then presents the deal to them. We will receive a fee for each person that switches from the suppliers.

Why Now?

We are closer than ever to having a choice for residential electricity suppliers in Tasmania, with the start date due on July the 1st 2014.

What if I rent?

If you are the current name on the electricity bill,  then this will be no issue. If you pay your landlord as it is in their name then you may want to contact them about switching to save you money.

What about PAYG (pay as you go) metering?

PAYG metering is unique to Tassie, with a large network of agents that can recharge your card, we anticipate that the PAYG customers will be sold off in one group, and this may mean that you can't switch to another user without changing your metering. We collect this data so that we can hopefully present enough customers with PAYG to a retailer that will be willing to take it on and offer a discount.

What if I have solar?

Any system installed by the 18th of August 2013 or system applied for by the 30th of August 2013 and installed and producing electricity by the 30th of August 2014 will receive a legacy feed in tariff of 28 cents for a period of over five years, until the 1st January 2019.

For installations that don't meet this timeline your will receive a fair and reasonable amount as set by the Tasmanian economic regulator from time to time.

But if you use it at home first then it is still a one for one offset. See our recent blogs for more info.

When can we switch?

If you currently use at least 50MWh of electricity per year then we will be looking to put an offer together as soon as we get enough businesses signed up, we are aiming for early 2014. This usage equates to around at least $10,000 per year. You will know if you are contestable because you will have received a letter from Aurora in July 2011, and most likely have been approached by other retailers.

What if we don't use this much electricity?

If you don't use at least 50MWh of electricity per year then you will have to wait for full retail contestability on 1st July 2014, the same time as the residential contestability. We may negotiate a deal well before this time but this will depend on many things that are currently out of our control.

Will I have to change my meter?

Depending on how high your usage is you may have to change to an interval meter, in some cases the metering will remain the same.

Do we have to take up an offer?

No, when we present an offer it is up to you if it suits your business, you may be under contract already and the exit fees too high to switch, but we hope to have the offer open for a period of time to enable most people to switch. Remember if you have selected to support a local organisation then they will receive 20% of the initial switching fee paid to us as a donation.

Tassie is about to Switch!

We will soon get a choice of electricity providers, it will be on the 1st of July 2014. We are offering fundraising to all Tasmanian Not for profit organisations.

What do I need to do?

Easy, visit http://www.switchmeover.com.au/fundraising and sign up your local not for profit organisation. We will send out an email to be forwarded on and an A4 Brochure for the back of your newsletter, both containing your unique web link. You can send these to anyone you know.

How much can you raise?

That is up to you, the more Tasmanian's that get behind your organisation and then switch over the larger the donation will be.

Who is the fundraising for?

This fundraising is designed for community groups, sporting clubs, parents and friends associations and other Tasmanian not for profit organisations. Even if you don’t need fundraising, why not raise money using your contacts and pay it forward to an organisation or cause that does.

How does my club get a donation?

When somebody signs up to Switch Me Over via your web link their email address is confirmed. If they take up the offer of any Switch Me Over campaign then you will receive a donation to the value of 20% of the initial switching fee received by Switch Me Over per campaign.
